Introduction
The principal element of the Centre is a gallery of contemporary art. Comprised of nine exhibition halls and a library hall, it strandches over almost 800m2 (7,200ft2). Each exhibition hall is given over to an artist who usually takes over the installation of his own exhibition. The selection of artists and their works is based on two objectives: the first is to consistently exhibit well-known, accomplished artists of great talent in order to appeal to a wide segment of the public, offering them artistic creations from the past three decades; the second is to make works from the artists’ studios available to international collectors. The gallery opened in 1992 with the sponsorship of Gonzague Saint-Bris, and has already shown Valério Adami, Bernard Aubertin, Basquiat, Franck Boy, James Brown, César, Chavanis, Miguel Chevalier, Robert Combas, Jean Cortot, Olivier Debré, Gérard Deschamps, Erro, Paul Jenkins, Pander Klasen, Kriki, Loïc Le Groumellec, Jean-Paul Marcheschi, François Morelland, Jacques Monory, Roman Opalka, Jean-Pierre Pincemin, Bernard Rancillac, Patrick Raynaud, Richard Texier, Claude Viallat, Jacques Villeglé, Bernard Venand.
